About
About me
I'm Berkan Yılmaz — a senior full-stack developer and AI/ML & DevOps specialist based in Istanbul, building and operating large-scale, mission-critical systems since 2018: from multi-country POS platforms and banking integrations to EV-charging infrastructure and production AI.
The short version
Eight-plus years of architecting, building and operating systems end to end — from database and domain design through production Kubernetes deployment. I currently work as a Senior Software Development Specialist & DevOps Engineer at Veribel Software, and previously founded and led Velocesoft as CTO, taking multiple AI and fintech products from concept to production while personally writing the code. Before that: a long-running independent consulting practice (2018–2024) and engineering roles at isbul.net, one of Turkey's high-traffic recruitment platforms.
I'm equally at home as an individual contributor and as a technical leader — owning architecture strategy, delivery, budgets and client relationships, but never far from the editor. The systems I get called for are the high-stakes ones: real-time financial transactions, regulated integrations, and legacy modernizations that must not disrupt live, revenue-generating operations.
Work I'm proud of
- Multi-country POS ecosystems — architected a centralized, multi-branch point-of-sale platform for the Zırhlıoğlu Group operating across Turkey and Germany: multi-database linked-server design, online/offline synchronization with conflict-free reconciliation, ZVT-protocol payment terminal integration — later migrated to the next-generation NextB1 CPMS without disrupting live stores.
- Banking & finance integrations — a finance management platform integrating six Turkish banks (Yapı Kredi, Garanti BBVA, Ziraat, QNB Finansbank, İş Bankası and more) with automated reconciliation and consolidated group reporting.
- TEDY — brand-agnostic EV charging platform — OCPP/OCPI protocol implementation over a custom WebSocket hub, EPDK regulatory compliance, Quartz.NET distributed scheduling, gRPC microservice communication, and LetsParky barrier integration for automated access control.
- Applied AI, built from the ground up — a proprietary LLM (design, training, fine-tuning and deployment), production Singing Voice Conversion pipelines powering consumer voice/music apps (Vocalbox AI, Twily AI), plus AI assistants for personal finance (Doji AI, PariQo AI).
- Fintech & digital wallets — backend microservices for the PayNar digital wallet and Ziffy merchant/consumer wallets.
- Platform migrations without downtime — including a full MSSQL → MongoDB migration for a high-traffic recruitment platform, redesigning the data model with no service interruption.
Industries served along the way: retail & multi-branch commerce, banking & fintech, EV-charging infrastructure, HR & recruitment tech, consumer AI, accounting, and digital marketing technology.
How I work
- Boring is a feature. I favor Clean Architecture and modular boundaries over premature microservice sprawl, and choose the monolith-vs-microservices trade-off on team size and delivery cadence rather than trend — convictions you'll find defended at length in the articles.
- DevOps is part of the design. I own the complete GitOps lifecycle — Docker, Rancher-managed Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform — on every project I ship, not as an afterthought bolted on before launch.
- Rigorous about data integrity and security, pragmatic about trade-offs, and biased toward shipping. The engineer teams trust to modernize legacy systems while the revenue keeps flowing.
The stack, plainly
Backend: C# / .NET (ASP.NET Core, ABP Framework, Entity Framework, Quartz.NET) · Laravel / PHP · Node.js · REST, gRPC, GraphQL, WebSockets
Frontend & mobile: Vue.js · Angular · React · TypeScript · Flutter · Firebase · Adapty
Data: MSSQL · PostgreSQL · MySQL · MongoDB · Redis · Elasticsearch
Cloud & DevOps: Docker · Kubernetes (Rancher) · GitLab CI/CD · Terraform · AWS · Azure · GCP
AI/ML: LLM training & fine-tuning · SVC pipelines · TensorFlow · PyTorch · Scikit-learn · NLP
Integrations: Iyzico · MokaPOS · EsnekPOS · ZVT terminals · OCPP/OCPI · Pusher · OneSignal · Mutlucell · EuroMessage
No percentages, no star ratings — technologies appear here because they've shipped real systems, and the work and writing are the evidence.
Beyond the day job
I'm a member of Açık Yazılım Ağı, Turkey's open-source developer network, and an obsessive self-directed learner in emerging AI/ML — LLM fine-tuning, voice-conversion modeling, applied deep learning — through hands-on project work rather than certificates. Turkish is my native language; I work professionally in English.
That learning habit is also why this site exists: 60+ technical articles, hands-on training programs from AI engineering to cyber security, and consulting for the decisions the articles keep circling. If any of it sounds like the help you're after — tell me about your project, or just say hello.
